maidenhead radio modellers club

 CLUB PAGE

Introduction

The Club was founded in 1948 to support radio control enthusiasts, and has evolved specifically into powered radio controlled planes, helicopters, and gliders, including electric powered craft.

We are based in the Cookham district some three miles north of Maidenhead, where we have a flying site all year round at Hyde Farm.

There are up to 75 members of all ages and experiences, and we especially welcome new and younger members to help develop their interests. The objectives of the Club are defined in the Constitution, and include promotion and encouragement of radio control model making, friendly association with similar clubs, and encouragement of younger members.

The Club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) and membership of the club requires that every member must also be a member of the BMFA, through which all our members are insured (and must be as per club rules). The Club rules and conditions of insurance are described in the Club Handbook also availible on the BMFA web site or BMFA handbook.

Club meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at Cookham Social Club. For special club events check the news page of the club web site.

If you are interested in joining, or would like to discuss any topics related to the club or aero modelling in general, you will be very welcome to contact us.

Visitor Safety

We welcome visitors to our flying field, and on most days you can find one or more of us at the field happy to share our enthusiasm for the hobby with any visitors or passers-by.

Model flying is not dangerous when pursued safely, however MRM take safety very seriously and request that all visitors read and follow these simple safety guidelines when visiting the field:

  • Stay off the runway (mown) area
  • Dogs must be restrained at all times when on the field
  • Children, though not requiring restraint, should be under control and aware of the hazards that exist.
  • Do not approach pilots while they are flying. The distraction could cause loss of control.
  • Stay well clear of operating aircraft engines, especially in line with the propellor rotation.
  • No ball or other games to be played on the field while flying operations are being conducted.
